Martha Uncas (1761-1859) protested the unfreedom of Mohegan women during the American Revolution through symbolic adornment within this treasured belt. The two other Mohegan women who wore this belt -- Flying Bird (Jeets Bodernosh-shor/Fidelia Fielding) (1827-1908) and Medicine Woman Gladys Tantaquidgeon (1899-2005) -- boldly carried on and preserved Mohegan religion, stories, and symbols.

Note: As of September 12, 2022, Mohegan Sachem/Chief Lynn Malerba (shown at the end of the video) serves as the 45th Treasurer of the United States of America.

Video created by Peter Hoey, Katie Lesire, and Cathy Soper of the Mohegan Communications Department.
